Fandom Gatherings at the Polar Den
Knitting San Diego's many diverse Science Fiction and Fantasy fandoms together since 2001

San Diego has one of the most diverse, yet active collections of Science Fiction and Fantasy Fandoms in the
world... we even host the largest popular media convention in existence: Comic-Con International.
But... All of those different factions of fandom are lacking a binding element. The one thing that can make
San Diego Fandom better is the ability to play well with others and cross-polinate our fannish interests.
It's time for SCA'dians to play with Trekkies, Filkers to sing with Gamers... from Buffy fans to Anime
cosplayers... We all need to be able to get together in a social setting and tell eachother what is fun
about being a fan.
The Polar Den is my home in Lemon Grove - a suburb just 7 miles east of downtown San Diego. My dream
of knitting San Diego's many fandoms together starts with throwing a party as often as possible. I have a
large living room area, a theater room with a 91-inch projection screen, a large backyard with a Firepit and
Hot Tub, and hosting parties gives me a great reason to clean the house once in a while ;)
The FandomGatherings started in 2001, shortly after I bought this home, and had been held 2 or 3 times
a year until real-life interrupted the flow in 2006.
Now, it's way past time to host again, and I need YOUR help to do it. Spread the word! Tell your friends and
post on your blogs, newsgroups, mailing lists, that the Fandom Gatherings at the Polar Den are back!
I hope to see YOU at the next fandom gathering.
