ExlineHi, I'm Darrel, 40 year-old fan of science fiction, fantasy, and anthropomorphics, backyard woodworker, amateur masseuse, computer nerd, and cuddly teddy-bear. I'm a So.Cal. native, growing up all over between Santa Monica and Chula Vista... But I have also lived in Dallas TX (90-93), Prescott AZ (93-94), and Tempe AZ (94-96)... but I've been back "home" since 1996 in the San Diego area.
In 2008 I took a new position at a Litigation Support Analyst for one of the largest law firms in the country. Prior to that I have had several years experience (since 1994) in the Litigation Technology field, assisting attorneys with preparing and presenting their evidence. Before that I was in Computer Tech support, network engineering, and even delivered pizzas when times were rough... but those days are long gone now.

I bought my house in 2001 in Lemon Grove. (The Polar Den is not only the name of this website, but is also the name of my house.)
I'm on the Board of Directors of San Diego Science Fiction Conventions, Inc. (SDSFC), a non-profit organization which sponsored Conzilla: Westercon 59 in 2006 in San Diego.
I am also on the Board of Directors for San Diego Speculative Fiction Society, Inc. (SanSFiS), which is the Non-profit corporation that runs Conjecture, an annual San Diego Science Fiction convention.
Note: There
are currently no plans to continue running the convention known as ConFurence,
and The ConFurence Group (created by me in 1999 to take over running ConFurence) is being dissolved as a business entity.
I started collecting polar bear memorabilia (images, plush animals, figurines, neckties, etc.) in the late 80's... and it sort of stuck as my alternative "persona". There's not much more to explain than that. Since then, it's been the one gift theme that my friends universally know that I will enjoy.
